How many packs of braiding hair for a full head?

Six packs is a full install. Not four, not five. Six. Three or four gives you a lighter look, and eight is for extra full or extra long.

That is the whole answer. The rest of this is why you keep getting told something different, and what actually moves the number.

Why everyone gives you a different number

Search this question and you will find four, five, six, seven and eight, all stated with total confidence. They are not lying to you. They are answering for their own braider.

Braiders work differently. Two people can sit in two chairs on the same afternoon, ask for the same style, and walk out having used five packs and seven packs. The braider decides how much hair goes into each braid, and that decision is a habit built over years. Nobody is going to change it for you.

Braid size does the rest. Small knotless braids need more parts, and more parts means more hair. Jumbo braids cover the same head with fewer.

So why do we say six

Because six is the number that does not leave you stranded.

Picture the alternative. You are three hours into a five hour appointment, your braider is halfway down the back of your head, and the last pack runs out. Now you are on your phone hoping your shade is still in stock somewhere, in the same dye lot, today. Braiding hair moves between production runs and a pack bought later is not guaranteed to match the ones already in your hair.

Buying the sixth pack in advance costs you nothing extra. Five packs is $125 and six is $120. Running out costs you the appointment, and possibly the colour match.

What to buy

What you want Packs
A lighter, more natural look 3 to 4
A full install 6
Extra full, or extra long 8

Six is also the most common basket we send out, which is not a coincidence. It is what people land on once they have done this a few times.

Does the length change how many packs you need?

No. Six is six whether you are in 26 inch, 22 inch or 16 inch.

What changes is the weight in each pack, because a longer pack is simply more fibre. Ours run 90g at 26 inch, 80g at 22 inch and 60g at 16 inch. You are covering the same number of parts on the same head either way, so the pack count holds.

What to do with the one you have left over

Keep it. That is the point.

A spare pack is your exact shade, from the run you already have in your hair, sitting in a drawer. In three months when you want to add a few braids or redo the front, you are not gambling on a colour match. Nothing about a leftover pack is waste.

What six packs costs

Six packs is $120 at any length. From six packs every pack drops to $20, applied automatically at checkout, so six costs less than five. That also clears free Express shipping at $100 and adds a free gift. Mix the shades however you like, because the price counts packs rather than colours.

Before you book

Two things worth doing.

Ask your braider how many packs they usually get through for the style you want. They know their own hands better than any guide does, and if they say seven, believe them.

And if you are unsure about the colour, message us on WhatsApp at 0470 372 592 before you order. A swatch on a screen tells you very little about how a shade reads once it is braided into your own hair. We will send you real photos of it on a head.
